Venezuelan trombonist Angel Subero is Professor of Brass & Head of the Brass Area at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Brass Faculty at the Berklee College of Music. He is the Bass Trombonist of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. Mr. Subero has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra, Boston Ballet Orchestra, and the Detroit, Pittsburgh, Iceland, Simón Bolívar, and Venezuela symphony orchestras, among others. In the realm of jazz, commercial, and Latin, he has performed with Slide Hampton, Bob Brookmeyer, Jim McNeely, Claudio Roditi, Danilo Pérez, New York Voices, Chris Botti, Aretha Franklin, Rockapella, Boston, The Temptations, The Ebonys, The Stylistics, The Manhattans, Jethro Tull, Demi Lovato, Jennifer Hudson, Rhiannon Giddens, Oscar D'León, Dimensión Latina, Isaac Delgado, Larry Harlow, La Clave Secreta, and Willie Colón.
The Boston Modern Orchestra Project featured Angel Subero on their album, From the Institutes of Groove. Grammy-nominated composer Michael Gandolfi was commissioned by BMOP to write the title piece for Mr. Subero. In a personal letter to the performer, John Williams wrote, “I found your recording of the Michael Gandolfi bass trombone concerto to be among the greatest examples of individuality and artistry applied to this fabulous instrument that I can identify or remember.” Mr. Subero studied with Larry Isaacson at the Boston Conservatory, and at the New England Conservatory of Music with Douglas Yeo, former bass trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
