Music Unearthed, Salt Bay Chamberfest’s 32nd season, explores how generations of Americans have used music to express their multifaceted heritage and feelings about home, self, and cultural identity. Four main concerts that riff on “Unearthed” include:

•Found: Rediscovering forgotten European masterworks;

•Earth and Sky: Capturing birdsong and the spirituality of the skies;

•Created: Exploring creativity in a new work for Sandbox Percussion with composer and steel pannist Andy Akiho; and

•Uprooted: Featuring a new composition by composer/cellist Karen Ouzounian on the significance of old music in a new world.

We are excited to present two SBC-commissioned world premieres amid wide-ranging repertoire performed by some of today’s most inspired musicians.

Beyond our ticketed concerts in Damariscotta, Rockland, and Orono, we offer many free community engagement opportunities throughout the region so that our music can reach people near and far. Enjoy an outdoor recital, an educational event, a collaboration with Wabanaki musicians, or a “music installation” at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, or come along with naturalist Sarah Gladu and me as we harvest sounds of nature in a local preserve.

Join us this August and experience the excitement and connection of live music as we “unearth” a myriad of musical gems.
