COVID-19 Announcement:

Salt Bay Chamberfest has cancelled its 2020 summer festival, Illuminations, following Governor Janet Mills’ recent announcement regarding COVID-19. By doing so, we strive to ensure the health and safety of our community, as so many other performing arts organizations across the nation have done.

To visit Maine’s wondrous coast is to experience what is sublime in nature and what is fleeting in life. Music, at this somber moment, feels similarly poignant in its capacity to offer us a refuge for reflection and an ocean of empathy and feeling during a turbulent time.

As we enter our 26th year of bringing dynamic, critically acclaimed chamber music performances to the Maine public, Salt Bay Chamberfest embraces the opportunity to find new ways of staying connected with you and bringing music to all our audiences in these unusual circumstances. Look for our online offerings of live concerts, interviews, and special programs later this summer.

Please enjoy our free, archived Maine Public Radio Maine Stage performances, now accessible on our website on our Watch and Listen page. And, if you can, help us remain strong throughout the next year by contributing to our organization and our Emergency Musician Relief Fund, which will provide direct assistance to musicians in need. We are finding ways to safely connect our wonderful musicians with confined residents in hospitals and nursing homes in our region to provide free music for those most isolated by the pandemic.

“If rivers come out of their icy prison thus bright and immortal, shall not I too resume my spring life with joy and hope?”
— Henry David Thoreau, Journal, February 29, 1852

Salt Bay Chamberfest wishes you a safe and healthy summer, filled with hope and the joys of music.
