Timothy Cobb, bass

Newly appointed principal bass of The New York Philharmonic, Timothy Cobb also keeps busy as a teacher, chamber musician and soloist. Mr. Cobb serves as bass department chair at the Juilliard School, and serves on the faculties of the Manhattan School, Purchase College and Rutgers University. As a former principal bass of the Metropolitan Opera, Mr. Cobb can be heard on all Met recordings after 1985, and on the Naxos label in a cd of Giovanni Bottesini’s duo bass compositions.

Mr. Cobb also serves as principal bass for the Mostly Mozart Festival orchestra, as well as for Valery Gergeiv’s World Orchestra for Peace, a gathering of invited musicians from around the world who form an orchestra biannually to promote international harmony. From his affiliation with the World Orchestra, Mr. Cobb has been designated a UNESCO Artist for Peace.

Mr. Cobb appeared in recital at Rutgers, The Manhattan School of Music, and Purchase College in the 2013-14 season, as well as numerous chamber performances in the New York area, and will appear in New York and Chicago with the Chamber Society of Lincoln Center in December, 2014.
