I am excited to bring you our 2025 season: Earth Song. A series of song cycles and musical works inspired by nature illuminate how living beings, across cultures and time periods, have musically expressed their perceptions of beauty, mystery, and the sublime in our natural world.
Our incredible musicians this summer include the Brentano String Quartet, flutist Claire Chase, mezzo-soprano Kate Aldrich, harpist Bridget Kibbey, and so many others. With Mahler’s famous Das Lied von der Erde as a thematic anchor, each program will have a different Earth-focus. I am thrilled to present a new collaborative work featuring Passamaquoddy singer Lauren Stevens with composer Dawn Avery using Wabanaki Earth songs. We will also present an SBC-commissioned world premiere work by inti figgis-vizueta for flute, strings, and percussion.
The coast of Maine is one of the most awe-inspiring landscapes and will be a stunning backdrop from which to enjoy a festival honoring the Earth with music.
